April 2025 Update

The dog run was closed on March 31st and the large containers have been removed.

Five Brazilian Pepper Trees located in the dog run were identified for removal prior to the project start due to their poor root structure. After the removal of the containers exposing the weakly anchored trees, one failed during a wind event. All five trees will be removed and replaced with five Tipu trees (Tipuana tipu). The new trees will be 14 – 18 feet in height at the time of planting and will be installed along the expanded west side of the dog park fence.

The dog run is on schedule to reopen early May. 

The Parks Master Plan identified a need for more dog-friendly areas. Initial outreach determined that space for additional dog runs is not readily accessible. As a result, existing dog runs were examined for potential improvements. This project looks to add 1,350 square feet to the Polliwog Park Dog Run by removing existing storage containers from the Begg parking lot and extending the fence line to the west.
