What is an oversized vehicle?
Any vehicle on its own or combined with an attachment that exceeds 22 feet in length, seven feet in width, or eight feet in height.

Permit Exceptions
There are some exceptions to the permit program. The following oversized vehicles may park without an Oversized Vehicle Permit:

• Oversized vehicles with temporary encroachment permits issued in accordance with MBMC Chapters 7.36 or 7.40.
• Oversized vehicles experiencing a mechanical breakdown requiring emergency repairs (all repairs must be completed within 8 hours of the breakdown).
• Oversized vehicles in the coastal zone.
• Commercial vehicles making pickups or deliveries or while actively providing residential, commercial or construction services, subject to applicable regulations in MBMC 7.36 and 7.40.
• Tow trucks or similar vehicles that are providing services.
• Public or utility vehicles and trailers providing services as set forth in MBMC Section 14.08.080.
• Any public emergency vehicle.
• Oversized vehicles belonging to federal, state, or local authorities that are temporarily parked and the operator is conducting official business.
• Any vehicle stopped to avoid immediate conflict with other traffic to comply with the directions of a police officer or official traffic control device.

Oversized Vehicle Permits are not applicable to residents in the Coastal Zone (PDF)

General Requirements
Oversized vehicles must comply with all federal, state, and city regulations, including but not limited to the following: 

• Per MBMC Section 14.36.060, no person shall park any vehicle in the same location for a period exceeding 72 hours.
• Oversized vehicles shall not be parked in any location prohibited by signage, other markings, or areas presenting a traffic or safety concern to pedestrians or other drivers, as determined by the Police Department.
• Operators of an oversized vehicle must pay any applicable parking meter charges if occupying a metered space.
• No person shall park an oversized vehicle in more than one marked parking space.
• Permit holders shall comply with any posted street sweeping restrictions.

The City has several areas where the parking of oversized vehicles is prohibited even if a permit is obtained. All signage must be adhered to.

RESIDENT OVERSIZED VEHICLE PARKING PERMIT
This permit will be selected if a resident owns an oversized vehicle that they would like to park on the street throughout the year (in 72 hour increments).

• Permit duration: annual permit – valid October 1 to September 30
• Price per permit: $65.00
• Resident will pick up a physical permit (hang tag) from City Hall once the application is approved.
• Allows a resident to park their oversized vehicle on the street for 72 hours at a time throughout the permit’s duration.
• Limit: 1 permit per household
• Resident must reapply annually for a new permit.

GUEST OVERSIZED VEHICLE PARKING PERMIT
This permit will be selected if a resident will be hosting an out-of-town visitor or if the resident is temporarily renting an oversized vehicle that they would like to park on the street for 72 hours.

• Permit duration: valid for 72 hours
• Price per permit: $ 45.00
• Resident will print permit from home once the application is approved.
• Allows the permit holder to park their oversized vehicle on the street for 72 hours.
• Limit: 4 permits in any 12 month period
• Resident has to apply for the permit for their guest.
• Residents cannot have more than one guest permit issued for the same 72 hour date range.

Neither permit type allows the use of hook-ups (cords, hoses, cables, or other items) from any residential or commercial property to the oversized vehicle parked on the street.
