Manhattan Beach’s Environmental Sustainability Division strives to maintain a healthy, sustainable, and resilient city while advancing the City’s long history of environmental leadership, policy, and stewardship.

Environmental sustainability is part of Manhattan Beach’s core values. The City continues to strive for a safer, cleaner, and healthier environment, so that future generations can enjoy the same benefits and privileges that we enjoy today.

The City has addressed many environmental issues, from plastic pollution to climate change and urban sustainability. Many of the environmental laws the Manhattan Beach City Council has passed have since been replicated by other cities, counties, and even states.

Compost Workshops: The City offers free backyard composting classes year-round. These workshops are great for residents who would like to turn their yard and kitchen waste into a natural soil amendment for their gardens and potted plants. Residents can also receive a backyard compost bin or vermicompost (worm) bin at a discounted price purchased through the City's hauler, Waste Management. Don't see a workshop in the calendar below?
