2026 Annual Boards and Commissions Vacancies
The application period for our annual board and commission vacancies is now open. This is your opportunity to step up, get involved, and make a meaningful impact on Manhattan Beach through the following Commissions:
- Parks and Recreation Commission
3 Seats (1 MBUSD Nominee***, 1 Member-At-Large, 1 Student Representative)
- Library Commission
2 Seats (1 Member-At-Large, 1 Student Representative)
- Cultural Arts Commission
2 Seats (1 Art Experience, 1 Student Representative)
- Planning Commission
4 Seats (4 Members-At-Large)
- Parking and Public Improvements Commission
2 Seats (2 Members-At-Large)
- Board of Building Appeals
5 Seats (5 Members-At-Large)
- Los Angeles County West Vector Control Board
1 Seat (1 Member-At-Large)
Applications are due on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at 5:00 PM.
To be considered for one of the available board or commission seats, you must be a resident of Manhattan Beach* and a registered voter.**
**The Student Representative must be a Manhattan Beach resident.

Overview
A board or commission is a body officially appointed and empowered to perform certain acts or assume certain jurisdictions of a public nature. The name "board" or "commission" has the same weight - it appears to be merely Manhattan Beach tradition whether a body was established as a board or commission. Boards and commissions have a permanent nature as opposed to a committee, which may be established for a specific and perhaps temporary purpose.
All members of boards or commissions shall be registered voters and residents of the City of Manhattan Beach.* Commissioners and boardmembers are appointed by City Council, with the exception of the Manhattan Beach Unified School District nominee, which is subject to ratification by the City Council. Terms are for three-years with a two-term limit, with the exception of student representatives and the Los Angeles County West Vector Control Board Trustee nominee. Notices of Vacancy are posted at City Hall and the City’s website as Board or Commission vacancies occur.
