Manhattan Beach has a history of sustainability and environmental stewardship

The City of Manhattan Beach has been a leader in environmental efforts throughout its history, but especially within the last two decades since the City created the first environmental staff position in 2008. The City has tackled numerous environmental issues that range from plastic pollution, to climate change, to urban sustainability. Many of the environmental laws the Manhattan Beach City Council passed have since been replicated by other cities, counties, and states.

Environmental sustainability is a part of Manhattan Beach’s core values, and the City will continue to strive for a safer, cleaner, and healthier environment, so that future generations can enjoy the same benefits and privileges as we do now.
